How we made this

Sources

Two kinds of sources: 279 long public interviews (YouTube) and 1,789 posts by Elon Musk on X. Every answer links to its source: interviews to the moment in the video, X posts to the post.

From interviews to questions

We took full captions from each interview, pulled out every question he was asked, and grouped questions that repeat across interviews into one FAQ entry. Each answer has the date, the interview, who asked, a short summary, a word-for-word quote checked against the captions, and a timestamp link. Timestamp links land within about a minute of the answer.

X posts were added where he answers one of these questions on X. A question marked "asked on 𝕏" comes from X rather than from an interview.

Summaries, short answers and view changes

Summaries and the "Short answer" on each question page are written by us; the short answer is taken from his newest substantive interview answer. When his position clearly shifted over time, the question is marked "view changed" with a note explaining how. Always check the linked source.

Checks

A build check rejects entries with missing dates, summaries or source links, or links outside YouTube and X. A hand check of a sample of answers compared quotes with the captions in a window of 60 seconds around the claimed timestamp.

Transcripts

Interview pages show the video with a clickable transcript. Most transcripts, with speaker names and timing, come from a third-party transcript archive; the rest are YouTube auto-captions without speaker names. Speaker labels are as provided by the source and can occasionally be off.

Mistakes
