33:24Event audio (intro)Is like a fucking.
33:53Elon MuskWelcome. Welcome.
34:00Elon MuskTo cyber rodeo.
34:10Elon MuskAre you guys having a good time?
34:19Event audio (intro)So
34:23Elon Muskthis.
34:25Event audio (intro)All right,
34:34Elon MuskSo we're going to talk about past, present and future.
34:44Elon MuskThis is the first production car Tesla ever made.
35:02Co-presenterAll right, thanks.
35:09Elon MuskSo where we started, we started off with a very simple car, the Tesla Roadster. And we manufactured this thing, believe it or not, in an old car dealership in Menlo Park, California.
35:26Elon MuskAnd we made the powertrain, Lotus made the non powertrain portion and we did final assembly and checkout, literally an old Ford dealership in Menlo Park. And here we are today.
35:41Elon MuskDamn.
35:50Elon MuskI mean when, when you first started out Tesla, I thought maybe we had optimistically a 10% chance of succeeding. When people say hey, car companies dumb, I'm like, I know, I know.
36:03Elon MuskIt's all. But thanks to the incredible work of the Tesla team,
36:20Elon MuskThanks to the incredible work of the Tesla team over many years.
36:31Elon MuskWe got here.
36:39Elon MuskSo we now have in terms of where we are today, we got the Model S, we have the Model 3, We have the Model X, we got the Model Y,
37:02Elon MuskWe've got the most expensive joke in the world. But we did bring sexy back.
37:15Elon MuskSo we've got cars in major vehicle segments, we've got a residential and commercial energy products, we've got their Powerwall megapack and yeah, it's insane. And again, thanks to the incredible work of the Tesla team, 2/3 of the electric vehicles in the United States are.
37:41Elon MuskTwo thirds of the electric vehicles United States have been made by Tesla, by the hard work, the Tesla team.
37:53Elon MuskYeah, absolutely. Take it away. That's Omid. Mead's has managed the construction of the gigafactory here. Thanks Amid.
38:27Event audio (intro)All right.
38:28Elon MuskAnd we have full self driving in beta. Anyone here use the full self driving beta?
38:34Co-presenterGreat.
38:39Elon MuskSo you, I mean you can see, you can really get a feel for how much this is good, how much full self driving is going to transform society. You'll be able, the car will take you anywhere you want with ultimately 10 times safer than if you're driving it yourself.
38:54Elon MuskAnd it's going to just completely revolutionize the world. This is one of those things that comes along very rarely. The Tesla AutoPilot team and AI team has done an incredible job building real world AI.
39:06Co-presenterSo.
39:12Elon MuskSo and we're aiming to go to a wide beta for all, all full self driving customers in North America this year. So.
39:29Elon MuskTo the moon indeed.
39:37Elon MuskSo it's a, this is now our sixth major factory and now we're in three continents. So it's actually great for us to have two major vehicle plants in North America, an awesome factory and in China and one in Europe that I was just at recently.
39:58Elon MuskSo this is going to be a huge improvement for Tesla and it's also going to be better for the environment because you want to make the cars where the customers are and not, you know, put them on ships and over the oceans.
40:12Elon MuskSo it's going to be way better to make the cars locally.
40:21Elon MuskAnd we're really entering a new, a new phase of Tesla's future with six giant factories around the world. So and scaling to extreme size. As you can see from this building, it's not small.
40:42Co-presenterSo.
40:50Elon MuskAnd this is also Tesla's global headquarters.
41:06Elon MuskWhy Austin? Well, actually I asked the chance of team because, you know, California's great and we're continuing to expand in California, but we ran out of room and so we need a place where we can be really big and there's no place like Texas.
41:35Elon MuskSo here we are, we're 10 minutes from the airport, 15 minutes from, from downtown. Great central logistics hub. We got access to Austin talent. Thank you Austin. Thank you Travis County.
41:55Elon MuskAnd it wasn't easy building this incredible, this humongous building and getting all this equipment here. I just cannot express enough appreciation and gratitude and admiration for the Tesla team that built Giga Texas.
42:11Elon MuskLet's just give them a hand.
42:25Elon MuskWe went through deep freeze, rain, quicksand, incredibly fast build. It was very difficult, but it's done. I want to give you a sense of the size of this thing.
42:41Elon MuskIt's not small.
42:50Elon MuskSo what we have here is if you put the, if you put the building on its side, if you put the building on its side, it's taller than the Burj Khalifa.
43:01Elon MuskThat's to scale. It's 80ft tall. It's equivalent to three pentagons. So when a building is measured in units of pentagon, you know, it's quite large. This is the largest factory building in the world by volume.
43:22Elon MuskSo yeah,
43:32Elon MuskI'm glad you asked that question. According to our calculations, you could fit 194 billion hamsters in this building.
43:46Elon MuskThis is, this is the machine that builds the machine and it's, and it's the latest version of the machine that builds the machine. So I've said it before. But the factory.
43:55Elon MuskThe factory is the product. That's, you know, prototypes, they require imagination, and they're not easy. But relative to production, prototypes are easy. Production is hard. And this building is the most advanced car factory that Earth has ever seen.
44:27Elon MuskAlien technology. This is exactly. You know, a factory is advanced if it feels like an alien dreadnought landed. So. And the team's doing great work in. In Fremont, California.
44:42Elon MuskBut this. We took a lot of lessons learned from that, where the buildings were all separate. There's a lot of movement between the buildings. And the thing that we thought makes sense is to really think of it like.
44:54Elon MuskLike a chip, like an integrated circuit. Combine everything together in one package. And now this is what.
45:14Elon MuskSo this is. This is a case of raw materials come in one side, they get formed into a cell, they get formed into a pack. Then we cast the front, rear body.
45:25Elon MuskThe pack itself is structural, and out comes a finished product. So it's raw materials in one side, cars out the other side.
45:39Co-presenterYeah.
45:46Elon MuskSo we're building our own battery cells, we think the most advanced cell in the world here at Giga, Texas. All the footage you see here is from this factory.
46:01Elon MuskSo. And we think over time, this will probably be the biggest cell factory in the world,
46:24Elon MuskMan. Another major innovation is structural pack. So we're basically bringing to fruition the things that we said we would do. We said we'd basically make the car out of three major pieces.
46:40Elon MuskA rear body casting, a structural pack with the cells themselves carry load. Just like modern airplanes, where the wing is a fuel tank in wing shape. With the new model Y architecture, the cells themselves carry load, and that results in a car that is lighter.
47:01Elon MuskA small number of parts costs less and improves the crash performance. So it's a safety advantage, too.
47:17Event audio (intro)Yeah.
47:21Elon MuskI don't know if this works. So.
47:26Co-presenterAll right.
47:27Elon MuskAs I was saying, it's a revolutionary car manufacturing to basically make a car out of three major parts. A cast rear, a structural pack, and a cast front.
47:48Elon MuskSo what you're looking at are the biggest casting machines ever made. And it's. It's kind of a crazy thing to make a car this way. It's never been done before.
47:59Elon MuskWhen we were trying to figure this out, there were six major casting manufacturers in the world. We called. Six. Five said, no one said maybe. I was like, that sounds like a yes.
48:11Co-presenterSo
48:14Elon Muskwith a lot of effort and great ideas from the team, we've made the world's biggest casting machine work very efficiently to create and radically simplify the manufacturing of the car.
48:30Elon MuskSo as I was saying raw materials in, bunch of stuff happens, car out.
48:50Elon MuskYes, exactly. If you don't make stuff, there is no stuff. And we're aiming just with the Model Y program alone to get to half a million units year and then we're going to start manufacturing cybertruck here next year.
49:15Elon MuskThe Model Y line will be the highest capacity line I think of any line in the world. In fact I'm confident will be half a million units a year in a single factory of one product.
49:27Elon MuskIs the, the biggest anything in the world high so and definitely the, this will be the highest volume car factory in America. And yeah.
49:49Elon MuskSo cyber, cybertruck always looks like CGI in real life, but that is not cgi, that is an actual, actual cybertruck driving around. So I can't, I can't wait to have this baby in production.
50:01Elon MuskIt's going to be epic. So.
50:19Elon MuskTesla's is growing actually at the fastest pace of any large manufactured object in history. The. Yeah, so.
50:32Elon MuskWe've now, we've now exceeded the million. In trailing 12 months we've delivered over a million cars worldwide.
50:48Elon MuskNow that said, there's still a long way to go because that, that red bar chart is, is Tesla. So we can definitely. And then the blue is global vehicles.
50:58Elon MuskSo you can see we're even though we've, we did a million cars in the last 12 months, we're still like maybe a little over 1% of total vehicle output in the world and we want to try to get to, I don't know, 20% as much as we can to move the needle.
51:13Elon MuskSo and, and this is, this is why scale, scale matters. In order to make a real difference, a really big difference to sustainability, we have to make a lot of cars, you have to make a lot of stationary packs to transition the world to sustainable technology as quickly as possible.
51:47Elon MuskSo what's next? I'm not gonna, I'm not gonna spill all the beans right now,
52:01Elon MuskBut what I can't say, what I can say is we're going to move to just truly massive scale. Scale that no company has ever achieved in the history of humanity.
52:16Elon MuskAnd that has to happen in order to transition the world to sustainable energy. So massive scale, full self driving. There's going to be a dedicated robotaxi that's going to look pretty,
52:33Elon MuskIt's gonna look, it's gonna look quite futuristic then. And of course we've got the Tesla robot Optimus. This is, I think, I think, I think Optimus will obviate what it even means, what an economy even means, so it'll be able to, you know, basically anything that humans don't want to do, Optimus will do it.
52:57Elon MuskAnd it's. It's going to be an age of abundance. So it's. I think it's, it's, it's. It's maybe hard to imagine it, but as you see Optimus develop, everybody's going to make sure it's safe.
53:14Elon MuskNo Terminator stuff or that kind of thing, but it's, it's really going to transform the world, I think, to a degree even greater than the cars. And then we've got.
53:26Elon MuskAnd I think we have a shot at being in production for version one of Optimus, hopefully next year.
53:39Elon MuskAnd in the. And it's. Cybertruck is coming next year will be in production with Cybertruck. Next year will be a production with the Roadster and with semi. So that's all.
53:52Elon MuskAll coming. So we've got a. This year is all about scaling up. And then next year there's going to be a massive wave of new products. So. And. Yeah, so.
54:10Elon MuskAnd now let us deliver our first Tesla cars. Made in Texas.
55:20Elon MuskWhat have we here?
55:44Elon MuskSo we're gonna smash the window again.
55:52Co-presenterI didn't break my hammer this time.
55:56Elon MuskForgot the hammer. So, anyway, welcome, friends. So awesome to have you guys little.
56:04Co-presenterYou want me to do it?
56:12Co-presenterI feel like I've broken enough things around. No, maybe we'll pass.
56:23Elon MuskNext time.
56:24Co-presenterNext time. I promise. I promise.
56:29Elon MuskIs there anything you want to say about the Cybertruck?
56:32Co-presenterCybertruck is going to be awesome. I mean, you see it here, you've seen it before, you see it over there. It's worth. It's worth the wait, believe me. Yeah, well worth the wait.
56:45Co-presenterIt's gonna be awesome.
56:46Elon MuskI. I think this will be our magnum opus. And I mean, you can see some of the changes we've made already. There are no handles. Who needs handles? The cot can tell that you're there and it just knows that needs to open.
57:00Event audio (intro)So.
57:03Elon MuskSo I think we're gonna have an incredible Cybertruck product for you next year. It's gonna blow your mind.
57:13Event audio (intro)And.
57:15Elon MuskYeah.
57:16Co-presenterSo, yeah, there is no other truck. Yeah, everything else fails in comparison. This is the only one you need.
57:24Elon MuskSo anyway, we can't. We can't wait to build this here and deliver them to you. Sorry for the delay. It's been. It's been an intense couple years, but we're going to have this for you next year and you're going to.
57:36Elon MuskIt's going to be great. And it's going to be like just a whole one kick ass product after another starting next year and then some cool stuff that we haven't even talked about.
57:47Elon MuskSo let's see. Thanks again for coming. I hope you're having a great time.
57:57Elon MuskYeah. Here at Tesla, we believe in throwing great parties. So let's get this party started.
58:13Elon MuskAnd have a fantastic time tonight. I love you guys.
1:08:53Event audio (intro)It.
